The annual Deadweird Costume Contest will be held Oct. 31 at the Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall!

It’s spooky. It’s creepy. But most of all, it’s hilarious. Deadwood’s annual Deadweird Costume Contest. This year the Deawood Chamber will be awarding over $5,000 in cash and prizes. Come in constume and enjoy the fun on October 31, 2009!

With some of the most inventive and hilarious costumes anywhere, Deadwood’s annual Deadweird Costume Contest has become one of the premiere Halloween parties in the Black Hills. While the event’s popularity continues to grow, the Deadwood Chamber has made it very lucrative for contestants who enter. Prize money is a whopping $1,000 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for third with consolation prizes including cash for best group, scariest and most creative costumes.

Contestants this year will go to one judging location – the Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall on Main Street in Deadwood – between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to be judged. The Lucky Nugget will also host a Halloween party throughout the evening, culminating with the awards ceremony at 10 p.m. There will be music, dancing, door prizes and much more. Contestants must be present to win.

A Haunting in Deadwood
Deadwood has a lot of history, some of which include the spirited kind. So for a truly haunted house experience this Halloween, look no further than Deadwood’s Main Street.

The old brothel above the Lucky Nugget is transforming into a haunted house for the ages. Dare to be scared, as this haunted house ain’t for the faint of heart, and is definitely NOT recommended for children under 13 years old. The spooking of the year will be held Friday, Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to midnight, and Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The cost is $5, with proceeds benefitting the Lead/Deadwood Optimist’s Club.
